The Position

Title: Development Officer, Sponsorship  

Reports to: Director, Events & Community Engagement

Location: 747 Base Line Road East, London, Ontario. 2x a week in office.

Key Internal Stakeholders: Events & Community Engagement Team; Development Team; Donor Experience Team; Marketing & Communications Team; Senior Leadership Team; Finance & Operations Team; Information Management; Senior Volunteers

The Ideal Candidate

Supporting the short and long-term events and community engagement strategies of London Health Sciences Foundation (LHSF), the Development Officer, Sponsorship will play a vital role in growing support for and inspiring investment in London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC).

The Development Officer, Sponsorship will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding sponsorship from current and prospective sponsors and donors. The Development Officer will skillfully focus on relationship management and will pair corporate community investment objectives with event and/or program needs while maintaining a donor-centric approach to each partnership.

Using market intelligence, the Development Officer, Sponsorship is tasked with expanding the current sponsorship portfolio and managing approximately 150 prospects to meet the long-term annual goal of $700,000-$1,000,000 in event sponsorship revenue.

Primary Accountabilities

Solicitation & Relationship Management

  • Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 corporations with a focus on event sponsorship.

  • Achieves year-over-year growth to meet short-term objectives and a long-term annual financial goal of $700,000-$1,000,000 in sponsorship across events.

  • Focuses on retaining existing partners and expanding engagement opportunities through exceptional stewardship.

  • Conducts prospect research to identify and cultivate new donor investment.

  • Collaborates with Marketing & Communications to create compelling sponsorship proposals highlighting opportunities for brand awareness and visibility through events.

  • Solicits community investment and communicates the value of a strategic sponsorship fit.

  • Maintains ongoing inventory of partnership opportunities at LHSF including potential for combined gifts across programs and departments.

  • Provides strategic support to third party event committees and helps pursue/solicit sponsorship opportunities for third party events as appropriate.

  • Collaborates with Development Officer, Major Gifts to ensure maximum support of corporate and industry partners through both direct and sponsorship giving.

Stewardship & Recognition

  • Develops and maintains a recognition and benefits strategy for event sponsorship ranging in scale.

  • Facilitates sponsorship agreements including timely execution, invoicing, payment and coordinating agreement deliverables.

  • Coordinates event sponsorship assets, customized activations, partner media requirements, etc.

  • Liaises with Donor Experience & Marketing teams to ensure cohesive donor recognition and stewardship including partner updates and reporting.

  • Measures and evaluates partnerships on an ongoing basis using benchmarking and historical sponsorship data.

  • Solicits, tracks and shares sponsor event experience feedback through partner debriefs.

General

  • Works collaboratively with management to develop goals, targets and fundraising strategies during strategic planning and budgeting processes.

  • Tracks and manages confidential donor and prospect information within corporate database.

  • Communicates regular activity and progress reports to the team.

  • Collaborates with events teams to determine sponsorship critical path.

  • Takes an active role in maintaining skills and keeping abreast of sponsorship trends within events and fundraising.

  • Works as a team player promoting a positive and professional work environment.

  • Conducts role with integrity and respect.

  • Operates within culture and core values of the organization

  • Acts as an ambassador within the community representing the Hospital and Foundation.

  • Abides by the policies and procedures of LHSF and LHSC.

  • You will need to provide documentation of up-to-date vaccinations, inclusive of COVID- 19 vaccination.

  • Abides by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Other duties as assigned to meet the overall goals and objectives of the LHSF.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Successful completion of post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent related work experience required.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of event fundraising experience including a demonstrated success in soliciting and securing significant event sponsorship.

  • Experience with sponsorship fulfillment, activations and customized recognition for events.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence, negotiate and manage relationships.

  • Exercises diplomacy, good judgement and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated success researching and qualifying new prospects, generating meetings and securing sponsorship support.

  • Thinks creatively, communicates vision and adapts approach to changing circumstances and needs as required.

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving budgeted targets and executing meaningful partner retention and growth strategies.

  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively on a variety of priority projects with competing deadlines.

  • Basic understanding of healthcare system in Ontario.

  • Proficiency with corporate productivity tools such as: Office 365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Raiser’s Edge or other donor database management systems.

  • Access to a vehicle and valid driver’s license.

  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this opportunity is $60,000-$85,000. Vacation is three weeks plus a generous benefits package that will be shared with qualified candidates.
