Location:                         2x a week in office 4211 Yonge Street Unit 301A, Toronto, Ontario OR 1101 Kingston Road Unit 360, Pickering, Ontario.

Make-A-Wish® Canada creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. They are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness.

Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 39,000 wishes across the country. As an independently operating affiliate of Make-A-Wish International, Make-A-Wish Canada is part of the network of the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization. They serve children in every community in Canada, and in more than 50 countries worldwide.

☆ Important Context

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada was formed in 2019 through the voluntary amalgamation of Children’s Wish Foundation and the federated chapters of Make-A-Wish.  Prior to this amalgamation, Make-A-Wish was a federated charity with 8 chapters across Canada.  The first Make-A-Wish chapter in Canada was in British Columbia and was founded in 1983.  Children’s Wish was a national charity operating across Canada. Children’s Wish was founded in 1984.

The objective of the merger was to:

1.       Increase wish granting ability to grant the wish of every eligible child.

2.       Become a top-tier and truly national charitable organization with increased geographic reach and efficacy in mission delivery, fundraising, impact measurement, talent management and operational efficiency.

3.       Eliminate brand confusion in the market and elevate national marketing and fundraising programs.

4.       Diversify funding sources to higher yielding segments and clear focus on effectiveness of events.

Over the past two years, Make-A-Wish Canada has grown wish delivery by 100%, reaching more children than ever before in the history of the organization.  To support this growth in mission delivery, Make-A-Wish Canada has a bold vision to diversify and elevate fundraising so that they may sustainably reach 2,500 children per year by 2028.

☆ Where You Come In

Reporting to the Senior Manager, National Corporate Development, the Manager, National Corporate Development will be responsible for securing national scale corporate commitments to support the mission. Our candidate will hold an annual target of $700,000 in revenue and will focus in account management, growing existing relationships byway of corporate cash and gifts, in-kind product/services, sponsorships, corporate events and cause marketing campaigns. They will also hold a new business accountability, seeking out new corporate relationships to support the mission at the National level.  Our candidate will also work closely with chapter offices in raising additional corporate revenue in the field and, where appropriate, grow regional partnerships into national opportunities for support.

☆ What You Will do

  • Plays a role in planning and implementing an impactful, growth-oriented corporate fundraising portfolio.

  • Strategically manage and contribute with the generation national corporate pipeline of existing and new business through opportunities that can include cause marketing, sponsorship, employee engagement, in-kind donations, and corporate philanthropy.

  • Demonstrate ability to identify leads, cultivate, close and steward four to five figure corporate gifts.

  • Collaborates and genuinely builds relationships with team members and, other regional and national departments.

  • Develops and writes compelling funding proposals that are well-designed and meet brand guidelines.

  • Works innovatively to design corporate partner activations that support a partner’s ability to communicate the importance of their partnership with Make-A-Wish Canada.

  • Leads, creates and presents pitches and proposals to corporate partners.

  • Possesses strong ambassadorial qualities.

  • Utilizes strong administrative and computer skills to complete all administrative and data management tasks associated with fundraising on a timely basis. This includes using Salesforce to input and track donor activities.

  • Works in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act in the applicable province of employment and its regulations, and complies with the Foundation’s Health & Safety Policy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

☆ What You Bring

  • Ideally will possess post-secondary education, preferably in a Marketing or a Business Program. Or possess’ relevant work experience in related field in lieu of formal post-secondary education.

  • 3-5 years of related experience, ideally in the corporate philanthropy sector or sales/marketing field.

  • Solid track record of working with national corporate partners in securing gifts of $20,000+.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing a prospect pipeline while implementing strategies to reach and surpass revenue goals.

  • Work well under pressure of tight deadlines and can manage a high-volume workload with multiple demands and changing priorities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary for proposal writing, developing and delivering presentation skills and for managing daily interactions with team members and partners.

  • Exhibit a strong degree of initiative, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Competency in the ability to manage through ambiguity and changing priorities.

  • Creative: ability to conceptualize new ideas and see a bigger picture or opportunities to increase support.

  • Maintain outstanding time management skills and the ability to prioritize.

  • Experience with CRM (ideally Salesforce) is a strong asset.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work environment (2 days in-office) with occasional requirements to work outside of regular office hours.

  • Occasional day/overnight travel.

  • Primary accountabilities are carried out in the National Office, however, may be required to attend meetings/events within the community. This position is required to work outside normal office hours to attend corporate events representing the Foundation.

Physical/Mental Effort

  • Works under pressure of tight deadlines, with high volume workload, and with multiple demands, changing priorities.

  • Demonstrates emotional resiliency to be able to conduct cold-calls and continue to develop donor relations.
